Learning the art of Tunisian cuisine—a traditional local cook—is difficult to arrange independently, yet more rewarding than following recipes. This private half-day course in Tunis provides a personalized experience, with a market visit and hands-on tuition with a local family.
• Learn to create classic courses and salads with the freedom to choose dishes to suit your interests, before sitting down to savor your creations.
• Learn traditional Tunisian cooking on a private half-day class in Tunis Easy way to learn classic techniques, with tuition from a local cook
• Visit a market, make various main dishes and salads, and taste the results
• Ideal for all abilities, with chance to tailor dishes around your interests

Start your class with a short overview of Tunisian food and to understand any particular last minute requests or preferences. Then continue on to visit the food and spice markets before returning to cook. The classes offer hands on instruction. The idea is for you to actually make the food in close contact with a traditional Tunisian woman cook.

The approach is to prepare the components of a meal, usually consisting of several salads and a main course or two. You can vary this format infinitely to cater to tastes or specific interest areas, and your instructors are happy to teach you any Tunisian recipe. Because the classes are private, you have complete flexibility to adapt to anything you might want to do, but also to go at the right pace, covering what you would like to cover.

Moving to the grand mosque, the oldest in North Africa, then the nearby Sidi Sahbi with an introduction to some Tunisian traditions. End the visit with a walk through the medina and its exotic charm. Visit of El Jem (Thysdrus) Roman amphitheater, the third biggest & the best-preserved one in the Roman world. Terminate with the visit of the famous Museum of El Jem.

Departure to Kairouan from your Tunis centrally located accommodation. The tour starts with the last two 9th century Aghlabid Basins which were among the greatest waterworks of the Middle Ages. The basins are seen from the top of the Tourist Information Building and they form an introduction to the foundation of Kairouan and its glorious age.

Proceed to visit the 7th-century Great Okba Mosque, the oldest one in North Africa. Appreciate the powerful and beautiful expression of faith inherent in the 9th-century building. Proceed to the nearby Sidi Sahbi, to visit the 17th-19th-century building with its minaret & beautiful courtyards lined with green-blue tile work & white plaster stucco. Lunch at a local restaurant. Moving to El Jem (70 km / 1h 15mn drive). El Jem’s amphitheater is the main attraction and is one of Tunisia’s most often visited sites. This monumental amphitheater, built in the mid 3rd century AD (230-240 AD), is the largest Roman monument left in Africa and ranks 3rd in the Empire after those of Rome and Verona. Being one of the last large amphitheaters built during the Roman era, its architectural design is an improvement over that of the Coliseum of Rome.
